Do I need an NCBE Account?
In most jurisdictions, yes! The NCBE Account—and the NCBE Number associated with that account—is key to tracking your examinee data before, during, and after the bar exam and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE). In addition, for those jurisdictions that use NCBE’s investigation services, it’s the home base for your character and fitness application and investigation.
I used a law school/former employer email address to sign up for my NCBE Account and no longer have that address. How can I get back into my NCBE Account?
If you lost access to the primary email address on your NCBE Account and have no other options to receive account recovery notifications, please message NCBE using the contact form at www.ncbex.org/contact. An NCBE representative will respond to your message with steps on how to securely regain access to your account.
What steps can I take to prevent losing access to my NCBE Account in the future?
There are several preventative actions you can take to ensure that you will have access to your account in the future. They are:
- If you are unsure if you have already created an NCBE Account, use the NCBE Account Lookup at auth.ncbex.org/lookup to check before creating a new account. It is a violation of NCBE’s Terms of Use to have more than one NCBE account (see www.ncbex.org/website-terms-use).
- Provide an email address that you will not lose access to in the future. It is recommended that you not use an employer or school (.edu) email address. You can always update your NCBE Account information by logging in and selecting “Edit Account” via the Dashboard.
- Add an alternative email address or phone number as another method to receive account recovery notifications.
Once I am done with my bar admission process, can I have the NCBE Account deleted or removed?
NCBE’s policy is to retain NCBE Accounts and any associated personal or other account information to fulfill its ongoing legitimate business purposes, which include account and exam security, character and fitness record maintenance, jurisdiction requests related to bar exam sittings, bar exam–related research, and ongoing customer service.
Although you can request that we “close” your account, there’s no real benefit to you to do so, as you may find that you need the account in the future. Your exam scores and other application information, as described above, will not be deleted from our systems, even upon request.
NCBE is happy to provide more information on this topic. Get in touch at www.ncbex.org/contact or via our online Help & Support function.
